Measuring Citizens' Satisfaction with the Quality of Residential Environment in Urban Neighborhoods (A Case study of Babolsar)

Abstract

Various crises in terms of environmental, social, economic and physical cities due to lack of proper planning at the local level has caused degradation of the quality of urban neighborhoods. The aim of this study was to investigate and analyze the citizen's satisfaction of the quality of the environment in the city of Babolsar. The research method was descriptive that the data were obtained using a questionnaire. The populations of 375 households were selected in Babolsar city neighborhoods (Planned and the beach, old and worn-out, marginal). Satisfaction criteria of residence in the questionnaire were divided to three criteria: environmental, physical- social and housing units and 35 sub-criteria. Analysis of satisfaction - importance is used in order to analyze the views of the aim residents. In this method, after calculating the percentage of satisfaction - importance, the IS rank each of the following criteria is calculated and then at the end of the analysis, matrix satisfaction - importance and use the software ARC GIS map ranking places has been plotted. The results showed that the studied communities in all indices are needed to improve the quality of residential environment. The comparison between the three study sites showed that the highest and lowest levels of satisfaction of environmental quality residential neighborhoods belongs respectively to planned neighborhoods, old and worn-out and marginal or peripheral reserved.
