A comparative Study of Crime Incidence and Quality of Life in Urban Areas (Case study: Five Areas of Urmia City)

Abstract

Considering the importance of quality of life in cities, trying to provide and improve it is one of the most important principles and priorities of urban planners and policy makers and managers and government officials in every society and country. Numerous factors and characteristics affect the quality of life in cities, crime incidence in urban areas are among the important factors that can affect the quality of urban life. In this regard, this study was conducted with the aim of comparative study of crime incidence and quality of life in the five areas of Urmia city. The method adopted in the present applied research is descriptive-analytical. Also, in order to collect data, library-documentary and field studies have been used. The statistical population of the study includes all experts related to the subject and residents of Urmia (736224 people) that using Cochran's formula, samples with a volume of 30 and 384 people were determined, respectively. Also, for analyzing research data, the Dematel-ANP-Topsis compilation model have been used. Based on the analyzes, in terms of quality of life in the city of Urmia, areas five, one, three, four and two with scores of 0.255, 00.232, 0.210, 0.161, 0.142, respectively, and in terms of urban crime, areas two, four, one, three and five with percentages of 38/32, 21/4, 18/37, 15/34, 6.57, are ranked first to fifth, respectively. In general, the results of the present study indicate the existence of a significant and inverse relationship between crime incidence and quality of life in the five areas of Urmia.
