Analyzing sustainable development in urban zones of Mega-cities (A case study of Isfahan)

Abstract

City of Isfahan has located in dry area of Iran and has some problems in urban transportation, environment and cultural spaces due to because of existing limitations; which by the growth of population it multiples inequity and unhealthy competition for urban service accessibility. This study aims to analysis and evaluate sustainable development through the study of 66 indices in Isfahan. The given parameters included five groups of social, economic, cultural - educational, physical - environmental, infrastructure– residential. The methodology of the research is based on descriptive and analytical approaches and the results are applied and developmental. To analysis the data quantitative methods are used different techniques of planning such ads multi-criteria decision making method (TOPSIS), Entropy coefficients, Hierarchical cluster analysis and the dispersion coefficient. The results of this study indicate that the urban zones of 5 and 6 in Isfahan, are most developed areas with the final score of 0.743 and 0.741 and they are different in comparison with other urban zones. Also, zone 10 with a score of 0.087 is less developed and most deprived district. Hierarchical cluster analysis shows, urban zones of five and six in Isfahan are the highest developed areas of the city and the zones of  one and three placed in  second place regarding to their level of development.The Dispersion coefficient of development index calculated 0.658 for all 14 zones of Isfahan.
